Bee Cave Texas is a great place to live and when you think moving company 78738, think about us ! The 78738 zip code is the home of Bee Cave Texas. Bee Cave as we know it today was first settled by a man named Dietrich Bohls looking to raise his family away from the hustle and bustle of Austin city life in the 1850’s. He settled on the beautiful Bee Cave area, a full day’s ride away from Austin on the upper Barton Creek. The family spent time farming and raising goats. This raises the question, why is it not called “Goat Caves” or Bohlsville, named after the Bohl familly?

Settling along the creek, Bohl noticed many huge bee hives in the banks of the creek. As more families moved to the area, it began to be known as the “Bee Caves Area,” and the post office build in 1870 officially coined the name. Don’t worry though, you won’t get stung! The bee population is not what it used to be. One wildlife population that hasn’t diminished however is the armadillo! This animal is even celebrated in Bee Cave, TX!

Since Texas has no groundhogs, Bee Cave celebrates Armadillo Day on February 2^nd. The armadillo named “Bee Cave Bob” is the official weather forecaster in lieu of Punxsutawney Phil. Bob is even officiated by The Lone Star Weatherological Society. Bee Cave’s individuality doesn’t stop there. Bee Cave, Texas was decided by the Texas Legislature in 2007 to be the “West Pole of the Earth.”

This has no geographical significance, but was only created to “add to the greatness of Texas.” And if you’ve seen how big and beautiful the sky is over the rolling hills of Bee Cave, you sure know the greatness of our Lone Star State.

On the East side of this zip code you have Bear Creek, a “village” that calls itself “the Best Little Town in Texas.” It was incorporated in 1997 to escape the high taxes and excessive regulations of Austin.

On the North side of this zip code, you have Cedar Valley, a traditional small Texas town. The first school was opened there in 1867 with a post office following suit in 1872. The post office was discontinued in 1957 with the mail being rerouted to Austin. To this day the population is around 100 people. To the west there is “Highpointe,” a master-planned community that claims to be “the backyard for Texans who like to have fun, enjoy nature, hang out, live and retire.” Other neighborhoods include Belterra, Oak Run, and Signal Hill.

Everyone wants to get away from the city sometimes. In the summer it’s easy. There are plenty of watering holes a short drive from Austin to cool off in. However, in the winter it’s harder to settle on a place to go. Here are a few ideas of places a short drive away that are a great escape for every Austinite.

Dripping Springs: 35 minute drive

Just north of this quaint town is Hamilton pool. Though it’s wonderful in the summertime for a dip, in the winter this natural grotto is a beautiful serene location for a hike or picnic with a beautiful view of the water. If you’re more of a below-ground traveler, consider visiting West Cave Preserve. Once you’re back in town, get a drink or take a tour at Deep Eddy Vodka Distillery, then settle down for dinner at The Pizza Cave, a highly rated Italian restaurant.

Wimberly: 45 Minute drive

This is the place to go if you need to get unique holiday gifts! On the first Saturday of every month, Wimberly hosts the Wimberly Lions Club Market Day. This market has all kinds of vendors, from handmade to vintage to bling tees. The center of town is filled with cute boutiques and restaurants. Pedernales Falls State Park: 50 Minute drive

For the outdoorsman, this day trip is perfect. Fill your day with hiking, biking, geocaching, bird watching, horseback riding and any nature activity you can think of. At the north end of the park, view the Pedernales Falls. This 300 million year old limestone formation used to be completely underwater, but now is available for your exploration. For the kids, check out the junior ranger program.

Gruene: 35 minute drive

Home of the oldest dance hall in Texas, Gruene is a barrel of fun! Hear some real Texas musicians and dance the night away, but not until you’ve spent the day shopping at the many antique shops around town! If you need a drink, get a soda at the General Store, a Gruene classic. You can also try your hand at fishing on the lower Guadalupe River. Gruene is known for its Bed and Breakfasts, so if you’re looking to turn this day trip into an overnight getaway, be sure to consider those.
