There’s one thing this winter that is not to be missed. If you’ve been an Austenite since day one, it’s likely you know all about this special event that lights the night sky. If you’re a newbie, we’ve got intel for you.

Austin Trail of Lights is THE holiday event in Austin. It showcases all of the best parts of Austin, the food, the music, the family fun, and the creativity. Lights span across Zilker Park creating a beautiful landscape to escape from with your friends and family. From light up bat caves, to a giant Christmas tree, this is a must-see this season. There are over 40 displays and over 2 million lights.

This event has been going on for over 52 years. In 2016, there were 375K visitors. It is Austin’s largest holiday tradition, and the second largest event in the city. Like we said, it is not to miss.

This event spans fifteen days in December, but there are a few choice nights you should make it your business to be at. On December 9th, there’s the grand opening. Mayor Steve Adler will flip the switch along with HEB to turn the lights on and begin the festivities! One kid from AISD that has won a writing competition will also be invited to flip the switch with him. This is sure to be a sweet event to see. There will also be musical performances, story time, and dance performances.

You should also be sure to check out UT night if you’re a UT fan or alumni. This night is free to everyone! There are great performances by UT groups that show off their Longhorn pride. There is also a Heroes Night, a Music Night, and a Movie Night. There’s something for everyone!

Declutter Before Moving: Get Rid of Home Stuff before Move

Moving can be a big task, and packing can make you realize how much stuff you really have. Want to downsize? Minimalism is a big trend recently, and it’s possible for you to do! Here are a few tips to get started

Start By Clearing One Area: Even if this is just a three foot area by your couch, you’ve gotta start somewhere. See what you need and what you don’t. If you haven’t used or appreciated anything in that area in the past 3 months and don’t expect to in the next 3- trash it!
Clear Off A Counter: Have a blender you haven’t used since 05? Trash it! This is no time to be emotional.
Shelf time: After the counter, take on a shelf. Clear that! Get rid of all non-essentials. See the tip in number one.
Schedule a cleaning weekend: If you don’t feel like doing it now, promise yourself to do it in 2 weeks. Then you’ll have to do it!
The 5 Rule: Pick up five things and find five places for them, or trash them.
GIVE: Donate a load of stuff to a local charity. This is a great way to minimize and de-clutter and feel good about it.
Take On The Junk Drawer: We all have them! The trick is to just empty out the drawer, and sort it into three piles: stuff that should be in that drawer, stuff that goes in other places, and trash.

Do not ever, by any means, forget the Alamo.- This is one of the greatest pieces of pride for Texans. We fought very valiantly against the Mexican Army, and eventually ended the revolution for good. We won’t let you forget about that.
Texans Aren’t Scared By Fire Ants- Most people from out of town would flip seeing those giant red bugs, but Texans take it in stride. They know those big grey mounds mean business, and don’t touch them except for with a long stick!

Proceeds from some of the ticket sales will be donated towards AMERICARES to help support those affected by the recent devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey. Alan’s Hope – Guitars For Hope 5K Run/Walk

Taking place on September 16th and starting at 8:00 AM at Brushy Creek Park in Cedar Park, this event is being held to help raise attention for suicide prevention. Throughout the entire race, live music will be played, and the same will also be done at both the starting line and the finish line. Online registration for the event is currently option through September 15th and those who register will be able to obtain a special t-shirt for the event; however, those who register on the day of the event are not guaranteed to obtain one of these.

Taking place on September 9th at 10:00 AM at 4301 W. William Cannon, this free event involves many of Austin’s most creative and talented vendors bringing together a large amount of their unique wares for you to indulge yourself in. How To Move To A New Home With Your Pet Safely

Prior to moving to a new home, it’s important to ensure that all of your family members are as comfortable as possible – including your pets. This is because pets can often be extremely sensitive when it comes to moving, no matter how far away your new home is. Planning is extremely important, which means that you should make note of the following useful tips.

Regulations

Prior to your move, especially if you will be moving to an apartment or a new state, take the time to gather together all of the proper documentation that proves your pet has received all of the proper vaccinations and other types of inspections. Here are some other guidelines to make note of:

*Rules Per State: Every state has different rules and regulations when it comes to pet owners. Consider contacting a vet office for more information.

*Local Ordinances: If you will be moving to a new city, be sure to contact the City Clerk’s office for information regarding local ordinances involving pets. These ordinances may involve leash laws, pets per household, zoning laws, and more.

*Condos/Apartments: If you will be moving to either of these communities, chances are there will be rules regarding what types of pets you are allowed to have, if you are even allowed to have any at all. Be sure to take the time to read these regulations, especially if there will be any extra fees involved with having a pet.

*Health Certificates: Oftentimes, many states will require that you have some kind of a health certificate for dogs and/or cats, as well as other types of pets.

*Tags For Rabies: A majority of states require pet owners to have rabies tags for dogs, cats, and some types of exotic animals.

*Pet Permits: If you own an exotic pet and will be moving to a new state, there is the chance that you may have to purchase a permit before you will be allowed to bring it with you. Contact a local vet office for more information.

How Can My Pets Remain Safe During the Moving Process?

*Identification Tags: Place a collar on your pet that has one of these tags attached to it, provided your pet is able to wear a collar. This tag should include the name of your pet, as well as your address and phone number.

*Microchip: This is a useful way to help identify your pet, as doing this will place them into a recovery system in the event that they get loose. Once your pet is found, you will then be contacted. A pet that has been purchased from a location such as a breeder, pet store, etc. already is likely microchipped.

*Photograph: This is extremely useful to have on you at all times, as you can show this to all of your neighbors in the event that your pet somehow gets lost.

*Official Records: This is perhaps the best way to ensure that your pet gets all of the proper care that they need. These records can be obtained by visiting your local vet office.

Chargers Moving Company: San Diego to Austin

Moving companies in Austin have their work cut out for them but they might have not faced a problem that San Diego movers are facing. Approximately 24 professional moving companies located in San Diego Diego, California have gone on record of stating that they are now refusing to assist the now-Los Angeles Chargers move to L.A. They state that this is being done out of protest due to the team moving cities in the first place.

According to the website WeWontMoveYouChargers.com, which contains a list of all of the local moving companies who say that they will not help the team with their relocation to Los Angeles, all 24 companies have, thus far, made a unanimous pledge to not assist the team in any possible fashion. The website also offers explains why they refuse to do so, stating that their loyalties to the city are deep and that they know the Chargers belong there rather than in Los Angeles.

Ryan Charles, the head of sales and marketing for HireAHelper, is responsible for coming up with this unique protest. HireAHelper is a moving company that was originally founded in San Diego. He also stated that an agreement was made between his organization and others that, even if they were asked to provide assistance, they would not help the Chargers relocate. They then made a few phone calls and found other moving companies in the area who said that they would rather turn down money than see the team leave in one of their company’s moving trucks.

It was announced back in January that the National Football League had approved the Chargers’ request to move to Los Angeles after spending 56 years in their home city. This will not be L.A.’s second NFL team, as they also have the Los Angeles Rams. Naturally, this did not go over very well at all with fans, who took to mocking the team’s new logo, vandalizing the team offices with eggs, and even burning team jerseys in protest.
